Hey, super moms!
If you’re reading this, you’re likely in the thick of it—emails pinging, kids asking for snacks, and maybe a toddler deciding now is the best time to experiment with finger paint. (I feel you!) As a mompreneur, juggling work, kids, and life can feel like an impossible circus act. Trust me, I know. There are days when it seems like I’m one spilled sippy cup away from a meltdown. But let me tell you: you are not alone.
I’ve been there—trying to finalize a deal with a baby on my hip or taking Zoom calls while hiding from my kids in the bathroom. It’s not glamorous, but it’s real. And through it all, I’ve discovered a few strategies that help make the chaos a little more manageable. Here are my top tips for keeping it together (most of the time) as a working mom:
1. Embrace Imperfection
One of the first things I had to accept was that it’s okay not to be perfect. Some days, the dishes won’t get done, and that’s okay. Your business won’t implode if you miss one task, and your kids won’t suffer if dinner isn’t gourmet. You’re already doing something incredible—building a business while raising a family. Let’s celebrate that, flaws and all.
2. Prioritize Ruthlessly
We wear many hats, but we can’t wear all of them at the same time. Start each day by writing down your top 3 priorities—one for work, one for your kids, and one for yourself. Yes, you read that right! You need to be on your own to-do list too. Whether it’s a 10-minute meditation, a quick jump rope workout (yes! I just started jump roping and it is kicking my butt 😅), or just sipping your coffee without interruption, it matters.
3. Create a Kid-Friendly Workspace
Your workspace doesn’t need to be perfect; it just needs to work for you and your kids. Add a cozy rug where your little ones can play safely nearby, or keep a small “busy box” of toys and activities at your desk. It’s all about creating a space where you can be productive while keeping an eye on your kiddos.
4. Master the Art of Distraction
When you’re on a call or need 20 minutes of focus, having a bag of “special toys” or snacks that only come out during work hours can be a lifesaver. Whether it’s a puzzle, coloring book, or their favorite show, sometimes a little distraction can buy you that much-needed time to focus.
5. Ask for Help and Delegate
If you have a partner, family member, or trusted friend, don’t be afraid to ask for help. You don’t have to do this alone. And in your business, learn to delegate where possible—whether it’s outsourcing tasks or even trading services with another mompreneur. It’s okay to ask for support!
6. Plan in Blocks, Not by the Hour
Trying to work by the hour is unrealistic when you have kids. Instead, plan your tasks in “blocks” of time, like morning, afternoon, and evening. Block out time for family, work, and—most importantly—self-care. This gives you flexibility when the unexpected happens (because it will happen).
7. Celebrate the Wins, Big or Small
Did you get through an entire Zoom call without a toddler cameo? Did you finish a project or simply survive a crazy day? Celebrate it! Being a mompreneur means redefining what “winning” looks like. Give yourself grace, cheer for the small victories, and remember you’re setting an amazing example for your children.
It’s not always easy, but it is always worth it. Remember, the community we’re building here is all about supporting one another—sharing wins, struggles, tips, and laughs. We’re in this together, mamas!
